Regional consultation for case studies on
“Sustainable Tourism for Development in the Americas”
In the context of the International Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development, 2017, the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) and the Organization of American States (OAS) are working jointly on a compendium of case studies on “Sustainable Tourism for Development in the Americas”.
This report shall serve as the foundation of the IY2017 in the Americas, and will contribute to a better understanding of tourism’s potential as a catalyst for positive change towards a more sustainable tourism sector that can further the global development agenda´s 17 Sustainable Development Goals.
The compendium of case studies will be presented at the XXIV Inter-American Congress of Ministers and High-Level Authorities of Tourism in Guyana in March 2018.
Based on this we invite you to share with us case studies that provide evidence of the contribution of tourism towards sustainable development in the Americas, in particular in any of the five areas of the IY2017:
(1) Inclusive and sustainable economic growth;
(2) Social inclusiveness, employment and poverty reduction;
(3) Resource efficiency, environmental protection and climate change;
(4) Cultural values, diversity and heritage;
(5) Mutual understanding, peace and security.
