ABTA, The Travel Association, has around 1,200 Members, both Tour Operators and Travel Agents and has a strong record on promoting collaboration among tour operators to drive sustainability in the supply chain. Members of the project develop sustainability strategies through the Better Places Programme which covers creating a plan, involving suppliers, telling customers and measuring success. The annual Make Holidays Greener campaign encourages holidaymakers and the travel industry to make sustainable holiday pledges, take care of the local environment and support local communities in holiday destinations. Main Key Performance Indicators are the number of Members that manage sustainability and the number of Travelife hotels that prove their environmental, economic and socio-cultural impacts. Travelife started with around 100 hotels and currently, it has 1500 member hotels in over 55 countries with 800 gaining the Travelife Gold certification. The projects contributes to social inclusiveness, employment and poverty reduction, resource efficiency, environmental protection and climate change.
