Bugs for Breakfast
Hostelling International is a global association of Youth Hostels. We are a charity and our focus has always been on social empowerment. For the 2017 Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development we have developed a busy program to address ten different areas of sustainability.
The world continues to face major challenges, which include issues with the environment, climate change and misuse of natural resources. It is against this backdrop that three Danhostels in Copenhagen have chosen to introduce a selection of dishes prepared with insects for their guests to try at breakfast. Not only do the insects offer many nutritional benefits, CO2 emissions, water production and energy usage are all reduced through using them as ingredients. They hope the initiative will inspire others to do the same and join the debate on environmental issues.
