China Hospitality Education Initiative
In China, many students and their families are unaware of the vast hospitality opportunities including career growth, salary progression, travel and adventure. China Hospitality Education Initiative (CHEI) is a charitable project of The J. Willard and Alice S. Marriott Foundation and its goal is to enhance hospitality education in China to better prepare students for meaningful hospitality and tourism careers, improving the socio-economic status of youth. Launched in 2013, CHEI offers internships in hotels, field trips at hospitality venues, industry guest lectures on campus, fellowships, teaching-learning resources, annual teaching conference, regional teaching forums and school visiting with demonstration classes. The programme partners with 86 vocational schools and universities and 86 hotels across 20 provinces in China. More than 800 teachers and administrators have participated in CHEI programs – they are making an impact on more than 100,000 Hospitality and Tourism Management students. The programme contributes to social inclusiveness, employment and poverty reduction.
