Escapade nature sans voiture

 In Solutions

The “Escapade nature sans voiture“ (nature getaway without a car) is a project of the “Grands Sites de France’s Network” aiming to develop a car-free tourism, as a new and attractive experience for people visiting the most beautiful landscapes of France.

A “country break” to promote a different type of tourism
The “Escapade nature sans voiture“ is a two or three days trip to discover the emblematic landscapes and cultural heritage of the Grands Sites de France without a car. Through environmentally friendly forms of transport (bike, train, bus, by foot…), these getaways are a way for tourists to enjoy the “Grand Site de France’s experience“, to take time to pay more attention to beautiful landscapes, to feel what makes the place unique, to encounter its inhabitants… It is also a way to re-examine our practices of travelling towards a tourism that makes sense as part of ecological transition.

A concept that is tested beforehand

In order to reassure on the practicability of the journey, Pierre, a traveller, is asked by the Grands Sites de France’s Network to tests the concept of travelling without his car from his place to a Grand Site de France, then inside the Grand Site de France. After organising his trip on his own in order to give a more authentic and insightful feedback, he realises a detailed report of his experience (access to the site, signage, information available on the internet, diversity of offers…). The practical travel story of Pierre is then adjusted as a travel journal available on the website

Sharing the Grand Site de France’s experience

On this website, tourists can find useful information (maps and GPS coordinates) and a selection of various hotspots to explore, as well as a section “Le petit + du Grand Site“ with unusual activities to discover the territory differently. Furthermore, visitors are invited to conceive their own “escapade“ and to share it through photos on the Instagram account @escapadenaturesansvoiture.
