Impact & Sustainability YHA
Hostelling International is a global association of Youth Hostels. We are a charity and our focus has always been on social empowerment. For the 2017 Year of Sustainable Tourism for Development we have developed a busy program to address ten different areas of sustainability.
In September, we focus on economic sustainability and how we can ensure development and fair profit for our global network of hostels.
YHA England & Wales believes travel, adventure, and discovery transforms young lives by creating opportunities to explore, learn, share, and grow in inspirational places. Through new experiences in the Youth Hostels, young people learn about themselves, each other, and the world around them. As a result, they grow into happier, healthier, and more successful adults.
There is increasing and appropriate pressure on charities to demonstrate their impact and social good. For YHA this means that it has never been more important to demonstrate their impact and reassure of their credentials and reputation. They have therefore created a system for measuring the impact of improving young people’s health, education and recreation.
Impact measurement in YHA has two aims:
- To demonstrate the difference YHA makes to young people’s lives;
- To evaluate how the programmes and interventions can be further improved to deliver better outcomes and outputs.
